FAQs : Car Seats - Rumi Air

Why does the Rumi have height limits?
Federal safety standards require manufacturers to identify the maximum height for a child in each car seat or booster seat. Through extensive testing to these standards, along with additional voluntary testing, Dorel has determined the height and weight ranges for the best crash performance.
The Rumi’s shell is contoured so it doesn’t make full contact with my vehicle seat. Is that okay?
The Rumi’s innovative design, including the shell construction and contours, helps the car seat transfer crash energy away from your child. Some areas of the shell will not be in direct contact with the vehicle seat cushion when the Rumi is correctly installed. If the car seat is securely attached to a vehicle according to our instructions, however, it performs very well.
Why does the Rumi need to be reclined when using it with the internal harnesses?
Current research shows that some of the most serious injuries children experience in real-world crashes are to the head and neck. Just as crash performance is affected by the installation angle of rear-facing car seats, head and neck motion during a violent crash can be minimized at an optimal forward-facing recline angle. Through extensive testing, our engineers found that the Rumi’s crash performance is enhanced by installing it at the precise recline angle indicated by the level-to-ground line.
Has the Rumi been tested when installed at different recline angles?
Yes. Dorel extensively tests all of our car seats during each phase of their development. The test results have shown that the Rumi’s crash performance is enhanced by installing it at the precise recline angle indicated by the level-to-ground line.
How can I install the Rumi so the recline angle is correct?
Place the Rumi against the vehicle seat back forward-facing, and center it in the chosen seating position. Make sure the level line on the shell is level to the ground. After passing either the LATCH connector strap or vehicle seat belt through the forward-facing belt path, push directly down on the shell with your hand or your knee while tightening the strap and making sure it is locked. If you push straight down, keeping the line level to the ground and the top portion of the shell against the vehicle seat, it will remain at the correct angle. Adjust the top tether strap and follow all installation and usage instructions.
